The actor has bagged Thuppariyum Anandhan, a tale about Detective Anand
First, it’ll be a cop named Duraisingham. And next on the cards will be a detective named Anandhan. Yes, Suriya is all set to play a detective in a period flick titled Thuppariyum Anandhan for which he teams up with director Gautham Menon after a gap of four years.
In a release, Gautham stated that all clichés associated with making a period film will be broken with this effort. “This will be an action adventure in a contemporary styled period film and I’m excited Suriya is on board,” he stated. The director, who has Yohan with Ilayathalapathy Vijay lined up next, is likely to start filming the Suriyastarrer by early next year. When CT quizzed Gautham if he plans to make the film as a franchise, he said, “Yes, it will be.”
Suriya said, “When Gautham and I come together, people expect romance, great songs and action.” The film is said to be a contemporary styled period film.”
Interestingly, it was earlier said that the director was in talks with Kamal Haasan (who played a cop in his Vettaiyadu Vilayaadu) and Ajith to play the role of Anandhan but both had not evinced interest in it back then. Now, it looks like their loss is Suriya’s gain.
RE-PLAY IT RIGHT!
Here are some other instances of roles initially offered to other actors later went to Suriya
• For his film Neruku Ner (1997), director Vasanth had roped in Vijay and Ajith to play the lead roles. After the latter backed out of the film, the filmmaker opted for a debutant and Suriya made his debut in Kollywood.
• Gautham Menon had initially offered Kaakha Kaakhato Ajith and Vikram but both turned it down. It was Jyotika who suggested that he try out Suriya for that role.
• Director A R Murugadoss, who had worked with Ajith in Dheena, approached him to play the lead role in a film titled Mirattal (which later became Ghajini). Ajith, however, couldn’t work on this project and then the filmmaker went to Suriya. The duo delivered a big hit in Kollywood that met with success in the Hindi version as well.
