Anna Hazare's drive against corruption has gained more support from India's film industry.
After the legendary Rajinikanth put his weight behind the Gandhian leader, superstar Suriya too has expressed his support for him.
The actor joined the token fast in Chennai to support the social activist.
"(It is) Wonderful to see the movement against corruption. We should not let the momentum die. Jan Lokpal makes lots of sense. Sustainability is important," he said.
"I take a pledge to not bribe anyone for anything," the actor added.
Tamil actor R. Parthiban too came out strongly in support of Anna Hazare.
Speaking to NDTV, he said that even after 65 years of Independence, the menace of corruption is prevalent. He also expressed the desire to make a film on the menace of corruption.
"Everyone is
affected because of bribery and not just the film industry. I support not just Anna Hazare but his entire team," the actor said.
Around 30 members from the Tamil Nadu film industry are also on a token fast supporting Anna Hazare whose indefinite fast at Delhi's Ramlila Maidan pressing for a strong Lokpal Bill, entered the eighth day today.
Actors Cheran, Rohini, Mansur and director Murugadoss are currently on fast for Anna.
L Suresh, President of Film Federation of India said yesterday the federation was inviting all members to take part, but only few actors and directors showed up.
